You have reached the
Blogger page for Cleon Papadopoulos, a Director at London Alfa Ltd. Here, you
can find useful information about his past work, his experience in the banking
industry as well as his hobbies and interests.
Raised in Athens,
Greece, Cleon Papadopoulos obtained
his high school diploma from Athens College before moving to London to pursue a
bachelor’s degree in Engineering Mathematics at the University of Bristol, where
he graduated in 1984. The next year, he started his master’s degree in
Operations Research from the London School of Economics and Political Science. This
would be the first of two master’s degrees; he earned the second master’s
degree, an MBA in Finance and Marketing, from the Wharton School at the
University of Pennsylvania in 1991.
His MBA would largely
serve as the foundation for Mr Papadopoulos’ career in the financial services
sector, and in the decades since, he has served in a number of senior positions
within respected organisations. In the early 1990s, he joined Swiss Bank
Corporation (SBC) in London as a Director. He stayed with the company for a
number of years, and after its acquisition of London-based S.G. Warburg in 1995,
he became an Executive Director. He maintained this role during the subsequent
merger of SBC Warburg with Union Bank of Switzerland (UBS).
At the beginning of
the new millennium, Mr Papadopoulos moved back to Greece, where he worked as an
adviser to high net worth families and individuals. After 7 years in this role,
he joined one of the country’s largest banks, Hellenic Postbank, where he
served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the bank for 4 years. He took
on his current role at London Alfa in 2015.
Outside of work, Cleon
Papadopoulos enjoys tennis – he is both an avid tennis fan and player. He’s
participated in a seniors’ league for a number of years, and his son also plays
the sport competitively. He likes to travel to Greece, with Paros Spetses and
Crete among his favourite locations. He enjoys eating healthy and is always up
for some Asian cuisine.
